Summer Reading

Reading is the single most important thing you can do during the summer months to help retain and improve the reading skills that have been developing throughout the school year.  In fact, “studies show that most students experience a loss of reading skills over the summer months, but children who continue to read will gain skills” (www.readingrockets.org, 2022). 

To that end, please make a concentrated effort to read 20-30 minutes each day this summer.  Take advantage of programs offered at the Valley Community Library and check out the following resources for additional reading lists, resources and summer reading challenges:

Parent/guardian 2021-22 Report Card Access

Standard Based Report cards will be Posted to the Parent Portal quarterly. If you do not have an account, please go to www.valleyviewsd.org and click on the link for the Parent Portal. Complete the registration. Your request will be approved within a week, at which time you will receive an email notification requiring you to activate your account. Please check your Spam folder if you do not see an email within a two week period. If you have multiple students, only one parent portal account is needed. You may access each of their report cards via a single account. Accounts in the portal are to be created and accessed by parents/guardians, not students. Kindergarten through fifth grade report cards are called standards based report cards. You will need to look for that when accessing K - 5 report cards.
